2025

because wherever I sat—on the deck of a ship or at a street café in Paris or Bangkok—I would be sitting under the same glass bell jar, stewing in my own sour air. ― Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar Depression is a hell of a thing. I feel like I am drowning. My head briefly gasps for air above the waters …

You know the coffee shop is good when they have a collection of vinyl to choose from. 😎☕️

Resume Slop, or Being Unemployed in 2025: I was going to save this article for my weekly “what I’ve been reading” post but I’m too exhausted and equally pissed off, which means this deserves its own post. The résumé is dying, and AI is holding the smoking gun Full disclosure, I was laid off from my position with a tech startup last year. …

I have not been a good poster this week! I’ve been busy moving and dealing with everything that comes with that. I’m taking a break to share this attempt at introducing our rescue to our old and sassy cat. 😾🐶

I was going through one of my old tech bins and came across these gems. Anyone remember iPod Socks? Yes these were a real thing that Apple sold. I personally love them.

Sketched Out: I forgot to add this short, beatiful article to my weekly link post today. It captures the struggle creatives are facing with the rise of AI.

New Shoes, Same Treadmill #5: Stuff I’m doing 👨🏻‍💻 Last week I mentioned our basement flooded. We’ve dried everything off as best we can and we’ve had to pull up some of the carpet in the worst spots. The insurance adjuster came by and said it looks like it’s a result of the water table rising, not a leak in the walls or …

Happy Canada Day to all who celebrate! 🇨🇦

Day 29: Winding 📷

Day 28: Ephemeral 📷

Breaking in some new Sakura markers.

Day 27: Collective 📷 Mere seconds before running my first marathon in Victoria, BC.

New Shoes, Same Treadmill #4: Stuff I’m doing 👨🏻‍💻 I’m trying very hard to keep it all together. At any moment I could lose my shit. This is a result of the universe having a way of throwing you a ton of bullshit all at once. The latest was our basement flooding due to a monumental fuck ton of rain last weekend. We’ve ripped out …

Day 26: Bridge 📷

Day 25: Decay 📷

Day 24: Bloom 📷

Just finished “In Limbo” by Deb JJ Lee. I’ve been a fan of their illustrations for years now and the book is beautiful. There’s a lot here. It’s about adolescence, abuse, mental illness, and struggling to find your place in this world. Highly recommended.

I Journal: I’m one of those weirdos that likes to journal. It’s like talking to yourself in print form. Which is good because talking yourself verbally makes you look insane. I hadn’t realized just how long I’ve been journalling for. I started in 2011! I was still in my first marriage and was working as a …

day 23: Fracture 📷 I had a hard time finding a photo for this one. Do mountains count as a fracture? 🤔

Day 22: Hometown 📷

Photo challenge day 21: Silhouette 📷

My partner and I have been working on this business since last year but somehow having something physical makes it feel more real. This is my personal space on the internet so I won’t be promoting my work here. If you’re interested to see what it is I do you can find me here: findcommonground.ca

Photo challenge day 20: Gather 📷

New Shoes, Same Treadmill #3: Stuff I’m doing 👨🏻‍💻 I’ve been taking care of administrative shit related to my new business. When you work in the field of mental health and wellbeing you typically have to register for all kinds of stuff. That means fees, lots and lots of fees. On to the cool stuff I’ve read this week. Stuff I’ve …

Photo challenge day 19: Equal 📷

📷 Day 18: Texture

Another Piece of Content (Kill Me): Content: I fucking hate that word. My skin crawls every time I hear an influencer, tech exec, or web 3 grifter use it in a video, blog post, or Instagram Story. If I run into someone and we inevitably start asking what we do for a living and the person answers; “I make internet content”, I …

New Shoes, Same Treadmill #2: Stuff I’m doing 👨🏻‍💻 My wife and I have been packing up furniture, cutlery, clothes, anything we think we might need for our new place in West Kelowna. We’ll be spending most of our summer there this year. We’re trying to get everything packed into one U-Haul so we can do it one seven hour drive. 🤞 …

A Bicycle For The Mind: Before the WWDC keynote I had read rumours that iPad multitasking was, yet again, going to be changed. Those of us that love the iPad as a platform have been burned by this promise before. However it’s not a feature I would use that often anyway. Years ago I worked for Apple. I was a Manager at two …

I worked for Apple for 10 years and I still get excited to watch the WWDC keynote. Yes, the company has been dropping the ball in more ways than one but I can’t help myself. 🤓

I’m lucky to live right next to the second largest urban park in all of Canada. Over 80 kilometers of trails. 🏃🏻‍♂️🚴🏻🇨🇦

When you decide you’re worthy, the Universe doesn’t argue; it adapts. New people, new chances, new energy all begin to align with the version of you that finally believes in better. Vex King 💬 When you’re going through a massive career change the impostor syndrome hits hard.

New Shoes, Same Treadmill #1: If you’re new here this is a weekly post where I summarize some of the interesting stuff I’ve read lately. Stuff I’m doing 👨🏻‍💻 I started taking clients for the first time as business owner! This is a huge step for me. While I’ve been in the corporate world my entire life, I’ve always had an …

Living her best life. 🐶🐕

From Bear to Here: Hey everyone! I’m in the process of moving from Bear to micro.blog. I’ve been working in corporate tech for most of my life. I started my long career in Web Development back when CSS was relatively new and you had to optimize for IE 5 (shudder). Like many people in Tech, I started to get burnt out. …
