When the world is on fire...
I’ve been away from blogging and social media in general for a while now. When my nervous system gets overloaded I tend to pull back and remove myself from as much as possible. And holy fuck am I overloaded. We all are.
I live in Canada and it feels like there’s a massive fire raging below us that keeps threatening to spread across the border and there’s nothing we can do but wait. It could be worse, I could be American. I say that with a heart full of empathy for a large portion of the American population that didn’t vote for this.
The company I work for has employees in Canada and the US. In fact, I’m travelling to the US for work later this month. Do I delete all of my social media apps before I go? Are there any other precautions I should be taking? I ask myself these questions being fully aware of my massive privilege as a white, heterosexual male. I can’t imagine the stress others are feeling.
Pulling away and removing myself from the world isn’t the answer to any of this.
